October Woodland Walk

Witness the spectacular colours of autumn by taking a stroll through Ireland’s woodlands during the month of October.

Depending on how the weather has been behaving, October is generally the best month to enjoy the fullest colours of autumn in our woodlands.

For this reason, we have come up with “October Woodland Walk” as a way of celebrating this autumnal display. During the month of October, we are encouraging walkers to get out into the Irish woodlands to experience and document this annual spectacle.

Where to walk

On Twitter and Facebook, we asked our followers to recommend woodlands in Ireland which are known for spectacular displays of autumn colour.

We have started plotting these locations, plus some of our own suggestions, together in the map below.

This map is a work in progress, and we have more locations still to add. Feel free to suggest others on the following social media threads:

Your October Woodland Walks

During October, we invite you to tag photos or videos of your #OctoberWoodlandWalk on social media.

Stay safe

For safety reasons, we advise against entering woodland areas during windy conditions. If entering woodland after a storm, please be aware of fallen, partially fallen, and damaged trees.

Take care if the ground is wet. Exposed roots and fallen leaves can be slippery.

Please observe and obey any safety signage put in place by the landowner.
